Offering an intimate look into the everyday life of Serge Gainsbourg, this book has been published to accompany exhibitions in Paris and New York.
Via scribbled notes to his butler, Fulbert Ribeaut, we get to know the man behind the artist. For ten years, Serge Gainsbourg lived in a house on Paris' Rue Verneuil with Fulbert, who would become a close friend. Immediately after Gainsbourg's death, Fulbert's nephew Yannick Ribeaut photographed his house extensively. Now, for the very first time, these unique photographs have been published in a new book along with hand-written drafts of Gainsbourg's lyrics as well as personal notes that the singer wrote to Fulbert. An authentic and moving testimony to one of France's most influential musicians!
Twenty years after Serge Gainsbourg's death, Roger Szmulewicz of Fifty One Fine Art Photography Gallery in Antwerp has curated an exhibition accompanying the book that will be held at Sotheby's in Paris from February 28 until March 9, 2011. Afterwards, the exhibition moves to the Gallery of the French Institute Alliance Francaise (FIAF) in New York, from March 24 to April 23, 2011.
